Tips for choosing the right room curtain
The first step before setting the curtain for your living room is taking measurements from the wall. Begin by measuring the height and width of the location where the curtain will be placed. The general rule is to opt for long curtains that go from floor to ceiling, this type of curtain leaves the room more elegant and extends the right foot of the house. Leave the curtains short only and only if there is any furniture below the window that prevents the use of a long model.
As a rule, the curtain is installed near the ceiling until it hits the floor. If you prefer to leave the bar longer, it is possible too, but in this case the length should not extend more than five centimeters from the floor.
Regarding the width, the ideal is to leave a spare of 20 centimeters for each side in order to ensure adequate light blocking.
After taking the measurements from the wall go to the next step which is to analyze the functionality of the curtain. That is, check what will be the main function of the piece: block the light, bring privacy or just decorative. You will need to adjust the curtain for each of these functions.
The preferred colors for curtains are light and neutral, such as white, beige, rosé or Off White tones. This is because they do not visually overload the environment and can be easily combined with different decorating styles. However, if the intention is to block the passage of light, opt for darker fabrics.
Colored or embossed curtains should be used sparingly to avoid overburdening the room.
The fabric most used for room curtains is the voil, because it is a light, fluid fabric with a great trim. Besides the voil it is also possible to use linen, cotton and silk. If you want a better light block, use a thicker, thicker fabric such as twill and velvet.
You can also opt for a double or triple layer curtain, depending on the need and style you want to give the environment.
Types and models of curtain
Curtain finishes are another common doubt. Basically you can opt for two types of curtain: rail or rod. For rail curtains the possible finishes to be made are the American fold, male fold, female fold and panel. In models with rods, the finishes are usually between the rings, eyelets and fabric passers.
You can still choose whether or not to use a cortineiro, usually plaster. In this case, the finishes are hidden.
Another option is the blinds. This type of curtain brings a more bare and modern air to the environment and can be used alone or combined with traditional cloth curtains.
