How to care for the jiboia
The jiboia is a very easy to care plant, ideal for those who do not have much time available for gardening. The main attention with the plant should be in the luminosity aspect.
Avoid placing the plant in places that receive direct sunlight, the jiboia prefers to live in half shade, only with natural light. The best spot for it is close to windows and doors.
Do not water the jiboia every day. The plant does not support soggy soils, although it likes humidity. It is recommended to irrigate three times a week or when you notice dry soil. Already in winter, the space between waterings should be greater, because the plant enters a kind of hibernation, consuming less water and nutrients.
Pruning is important to keep the jiboia always beautiful. Cut off excess leaves, especially those that are yellowish and dry. With pruning you also control the growth of the plant, leaving it to the size you desire.
The jiboia is toxic, so keep it in a safe place away from children and pets.
Well cared for and in the proper place the jiboia can grow up to twelve meters, spreading its leaves and branches through the house.
How to plant jiboia - on land or in water
The jiboia can be cultivated both in water and on land developing well in both environments. To make jiboia seedlings cut a branch of the plant where it is possible to notice the branching of the roots and wait 24 hours before planting.
To plant the jiboia in the ground prepare a pot with a substrate rich in organic matter, and for the cultivation in water simply place the branch in a container of adequate size and complete with clean water. Within a few weeks you will already be able to notice the growth of the plant. If you wish, after the jiboia take root you can change it to a pot with earth.
Curiosities about the jiboia
There are many legends, myths and stories surrounding the jiboia plant. The main and most known of them comes from Feng Shui. The Chinese millenarian technique of harmonizing environments recommends cultivating the in-house jiboia only if it is directed upwards. Easterners believe that hanging plant plants sap the energy of the environment.
Already in the North and Northeast of Brazil the legend reads that the spirit of a snake inhabits the plant - hence the name jiboia - making it a kind of guardian of the house. Another belief is that unmarried girls will not be able to date or marry if they grow jiboias indoors, since the plant would have the power to fend off suitors.
And, finally, it is believed that the jiboia can perceive the death of the residents of the house. When someone who lives in the residence is about to die the plant starts to shed "tears" and its leaves are covered by droplets of water, similar to dew.
Price and where to buy the jiboia
The jiboia is a very easy plant to be found and most likely you will not even need to buy it, you can ask for a change for your grandmother, mother or mother-in-law.
But if you do not know anyone who grows the plant can buy it in Garden Centers and even in large networks of building materials stores or hypermarkets. The price is the best part. A vase of jiboia in the ideal size to decorate the house costs on average between $ 20 to $ 30.
How to use jiboia in decoration
The jiboia is a plant that allows diverse possibilities of use in the decoration. To begin with, you may choose to leave it in a pot to decorate centerpieces and other flat surfaces, but always be careful to control its growth.
Another option is to create a vertical garden with the plant, supporting it in trusses or structures made with pallets, for example. In this case it is interesting to direct and shape the growth of the plant to the desired location, forming designs and creative forms.
But the most commonly used way to cultivate the jiboia in the home today is to place it in a high place and prominent in the environment. In this way, the plant reveals all its beauty when creating a green cascade with its branches that hang to the ground.
Now, in case you get a little annoyed with the possibility of the jiboia draining the energies of the house, as Feng Shui believes, you can grow it in a pot on the floor and direct the growth upwards by supporting it on the wall or on coconut fiber.
Full of beauty, life and magical stories, the jiboia is a plant that deserves a space in the house. So we invite you to enjoy the photos below environments that bet on the warm and cozy effect of the jiboia in the decoration. Give her a chance too!
